DominoART Challenge #11: Harlequin Diamonds & Any Game Goes!

TGIF Dominoians!
It's time for DominoART's next challenge plus my project today is performing triple duty by giving you a preview of the new challenges starting in the next few days over on Lost Coaster's Review and Altered Eclectics too!  Continue reading for all the deets on all three challenges!

First up, DominoART's Challenge #10 unfortunately didn't have any entries, boo, but I know a few of you did intend to play but the snow has messed with a lot of your plans so lets hope Challenge #11 grabs your interest and the snow cooperates ;0)

DominoART Challenge #11 is
Harlequin Diamonds
and again is
Any Game Goes!

I challenge you to incorporate the Harlequin Diamond pattern into any altered game piece(s) of your choice...that means dominoes, playing cards, jigsaw pieces, etc, all are fair game!

For your inspiration I've made an altered super-sized domino necklace featuring Lost Coast Designs Manga Goth Harlequin stamp and coloured with my fave medium, Sharpie markers!  I included her harlequin patterned stockinged legs on the sides of the domino and I also played around with glaze type and dimension by applying Judikins Diamond Glaze to the entire domino and then added the Harlequin Diamond pattern on the front with Inkssentials Matte Accents for some fun extra quirkiness!

The next challenge over at our Lost Coaster's Review blog is Use Some Red and officially starts on March 2nd!  My DT inspiration piece for the challenge has some touches of red in the self-adhesive red heart jewel on her necklace and the 3 jewel buttons on the front of her corset dress.  The dress is actually coloured with red too but glossy glaze turns red into orange once applied so that's just a little tip for you to remember for the future when colouring with red Sharpie!

The next challenge over at Altered Eclectics challenge blog starts on March 1st and our challenges are always Anything Goes and is only for altered art, of any kind, NO cards or ATCs etc!  So I hope everyone will come and play in all three challenges!

the stamp image is continued on all 4 sides with the harlequin patterned represented by her stockings

Have a great weekend and

"Autumn's Pencil" Doublecross Domino Bookmarker - Smeared Ink DT

Happy Sunday!
I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend so far!  Today I'm sharing my Smeared Ink DT inspiration project I posted over at our Smudgy Antics challenge blog yesterday!

At the beginning of February I shared my Daily Planner featuring Smeared Ink's Grandmaster chess set digis on the cover and today here's the Doublecross Domino bookmarker I made for my planner!  This time I used the tall and narrow stamp from my Autumn's Pencil rubber stamp set I designed for Smeared Ink.

Before I started stamping I hand screwed the brass eye screws into both ends of the wooden Doublecross domino (a game that's been discontinued for many years now).  Then stamped the image onto the front and sides with Jet Black StazOn ink and heat set before colouring the design with Sharpie markers.  I'd normally apply a varnish or Judikins Diamond Glaze at this point to protect the domino but I did that after I took the photos, the glare from the glaze makes it tricky to get good pix!  I made the jewelry dangle and included a tiny black domino bead to complete my piece, I just love those beads!  I threaded a length of black sheer ribbon through the top loop and adhered it to the back page of my daily planner and it works and looks great too!  Here's a closer look at the details!

Don't forget you've got DominoART's first challenge of the year to enter, #10 Hearts plus it's an Any Game Goes and also come and join us at Smudgy Antics for our always Anything Goes challenges too!

"Tempus Fugit" Just Steampunk Vol 3 & Week 3 of DominoART Challenge 10!

TGIF Dominoians!
Today I'm sharing an altered game art necklace that was published in Just Steampunk Vol 3 featuring Lost Coast Designs Steampunk stamp called "Time Flies"!
But first a quick reminder that we're now entering week 3 of DominoART's Challenge #10 Hearts plus Any Game Goes!  I look forward to seeing your altered game art created with any game you want with a Hearts theme ;0)

I stamped portions of the Time Flies image onto a small domino and a Chekit game piece with Jet Black StazOn ink then heat set and coloured with Sharpies in my signature "Sharpie Domino Queen" technique.  Metallic gold detailing was added to both game pieces with a DecoColor fine point paint pen and also edged and colored the sides with a broad point paint pen.  Then Judikins Diamond Glaze was applied to the surface and sides of both game pieces.

I stamped the same image again with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored just the wings and legs with Copic markers and added gold to the buckles on the shoes with a metallic gold Promarker.  I fussy cut out the image and removed the legs from the body then colored the backs of the pieces black with a Copic marker.  I punched 1/16" holes with a hole punch at the top of the legs and the base of the body before applying Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint to the legs and the 'wings'.  Once the crackle paint was dry I applied Black Soot Distress Ink to enhance the cracks and buffed off the excess with a piece of paper towel.

I then adhered both game pieces to the body with Judikins Diamond Glaze making sure to add some on the sides where the two game pieces touch at the 'neck' of the doll.  Once secure I adhered a Tim Holtz Idea-ology metal gear over the face of the doll, a flattened antique gold screw head eyelet and antique gold and copper Tim Holtz Idea-ology clock hands to the game pieces with more JD Glaze.

The largest Sizzix Alterations Gadget Gear was die cut out from a sheet of Grungeboard board and I applied tarnished brass Metallic Distress Stain to both sides and sealed with a coat of Delta Ceramcoat matte varnish.  I punched a 1/16" hole into one of the spokes  and adhered the game art doll to the gear with JD Glaze.  Once dry I attached the legs to the body with brass jump rings and attached an antique gold chain with a lobster claw clasp to the gear with a larger jump ring and  embellished with a brass gear from SkyBluePink.com.

Challenge #10 Inspiration project - "Love Hurts Lil Grumpie" altered domino!

  Happy Friday the 13th!
Today is my turn to inspire and encourage you to come and play in my monthly
DominoART Challenges!  We're now into our 2nd week of

Challenge #10 theme is HEARTS!
and it's an
Any Game Goes!

Click HERE to enter the challenge!

So, how good are you with a butterfly net?  Right now I've got a horde of love sick Grumpies running amok on my LeighSBDesigns blog during the finale of Smeared Ink's Bloody Valentine blog hop and I'd appreciate your help in rounding them all up!  But first let's take a closer look at Love Hurts Grumpie so you know what kind of beastie you're looking for and there's another one hiding out at Smudgy Antics too so see if you can catch him as well ;0)

Love Hurts Lil Grumpie
I used super-sized white dominoes to create my balloon toting horde which feature Smeared Ink's Love Lil Grumpies rubber stamp set.  The balloons I drew myself and the text on each one is also from the Love set!

I used Jet Black StazOn Ink to stamp the images onto the dominoes and heat set before colouring the images with various Sharpie markers using my signature Sharpie Domino Queen technique.  I edged and coloured the sides of each domino with a black Sharpie marker.  The balloons were drawn on Neenah Solar White cardstock and the text was stamped on each balloon with Tuxedo Black Memento ink before I coloured them with Copic markers.  The balloon string is black craft wire adhered to the backs of each domino and balloon and randomly bent and twirled for a fun and quirky look.  I took photos of the altered dominoes first before applying Judikins Diamond Glaze to protect the stamped surface because it's tricky to get a good photo without the glare on the glaze.

Have a great weekend!
